What is NLP Coaching?
NLP is the practice of understanding how people organise their thinking, feeling, language and behaviour to produce the results they do. NLP is used for personal development and for success in business. It is the science of behaviour and mind.
I’ve trained as an NLP coach (certified) as I noticed there is a whole deeper meaning to the words we use and the way we act that affects our entire outlook of the world around us. I wanted to understand why people behave in certain ways and feel the way they do compared to someone else receiving the same information.
Why do certain issues or beliefs hold some people back, limiting them and other people thrive. I wanted to understand why this was and how to make changes in our lives for the better.
What does NLP stand for?
“Neuro” meaning nerve, refers to the way we gather information from the outside world, using our five senses.
“Linguistic” (study of language) refers to the way we make sense of that information by organising it into the structure of language. “Programming” is our way of controlling something. This refers to how we interpret the world and how we control our daily actions, choices and behaviours.
Why try NLP Coaching?
People try NLP coaching to address any of a wide range of issues they want to fix in their lives and to help to bring about lasting and constructive change.
NLP is considered to be one of the most useful and accessible tools to come from modern psychology. Psychology is the science of behaviour and mind, embracing all aspects of conscious and unconscious experience as well as thought.
NLP coaching or psychotherapy looks at the way all humans act in life, to help an individual person change and overcome problems in desired ways. Improving an individual’s wellbeing and mental health. Beginning to resolve troublesome behaviours, beliefs, compulsions, thoughts, or emotions, and to improve relationships and social skills.
How do we Process and Delete Information?
Here’s a quick explanation of how we can get confused or annoyed about things that happen in our lives. Researchers have found that we are capable of processing an unbelievable amount of information every second. They say from 4-10 million bits. Too much for us to deal with so we block a huge amount of it out so we can understand and process what’s going on around us. Everyone is different so the information we do let through to our brains for processing (around 137 bits) is unique to us and the upbringing we had.
From the age of 0 – 7 we create our awareness and set-up our belief systems of the world around us. Like we’re forming an internal script that we then follow as we move about in our lives. This script protects us and helps us grow stronger. However, sometimes we can make the wrong assumptions about the world around us and put the wrong information into that script. Sometimes we don’t notice for years that we’ve done this. Which can cause conflicts or problems for us later on in life. NLP helps us to sort this out.
What are your Values?
Why do we sometimes end up not liking what we are doing in our lives? Why do things annoy us and make us unhappy? Do you get the feeling that you would like to achieve more? Like getting more out of your life from the energy you put in. To work, to studying, to your health, to relationships etc.
Do we somehow create this unhappiness ourselves (around money, health, work) as a warning that there is an imbalance or conflict in our lives? That something is going against our values or beliefs?
What if you imagine that you only have twelve months to live. What would you do differently with your life right now? Change your job? Stop work completely? Spend more time with family and friends? Go traveling? What would you do..?
What do you love about your job, relationship, where you live, your life, etc? Close your eyes. Breathe and relax. Releasing tension in your body. What would make your life the best life it could be? What changes would have to be made? What would you be doing? What would it feel like, smell like, taste like and sound like?
Write down a list of what is important in your life? What do you truly value? What makes you happy?
From your list now try to work out what your top 8 of these values are and put them in order.
To make positive changes and decisions in life you can now follow our values list. This is hugely beneficial. A list can also be based on a specific area of your life that you would like to make a positive change in.
NLP coaching is hugely beneficial to fix any issues you have in your life. Relationships, confidence, habits, career, performance, self-esteem, stress, anxiety, depression. Anything you feel that is holding you back.
